The crest contains the name of the college at its top. 2. The ‘Open book with the burning lamp’ symbolizes enlightenment. The book stands for study and research, while the burning lamp symbolizes knowledge, illumination of mental horizon leading into the realm of wisdom, diffusion of knowledge and the creative impulse. 3. The boat with the sails in the seas symbolizes the maritime glory of Orissa in which the district of Bhadrak, a part of erstwhile Balasore, played a significant role. It also stands for the indomitable urge of human for adventure. 4. The ripe paddy field triumphantly proclaims the richness of the area in agricultural products. It stands for the agrarian topography which is the edifice of modern civilization. 5. The scientific instrument, the microscope stands for general knowledge and education. It speaks of the advancement and progress in the field of science and technology.6. At the bottom, there is the part of a Sanskrit Sloka from the ‘Bhagavad Gita’. The motto “yoga karmasu kausalam” means ‘Yoga is the skill of action’. The skill is the guiding principle of work in life, which signifies that human .

Mission

The Crest is an epitomic art that symbolizes the aims and objectives, essence and purpose,vitality and heritage of our institution. The Ex-principal, Capt. G.N. Mishra , expressed his idea of designing the crest for our college in a staff council meeting in January 1968. His idea was happily corroborated by the members of the staff. The final shape to the design adopted was given by some renowned artis.

The Atal Behari College, Basudevpur, one of the premier Education institutions of Bhadrak district, has like any other such institutions of its kind, a chequred history of its own, the college is named after late Atal Behari Nayak , an eminent businessman of the locality, whose two worthy sons, Late Jagabandhu Nayak and Late Bhagaban Nayak, with a number of local enthusiastas pioneered the establishment of the college with a view to impating higher education to the younger generation of the locality Sri Gobardhan Nayak, the worthy grandson of Late Atal Behari Nayak is the permanent member of the G.B. as doner. The Atal Behari College was established on 3rd July , 1963 .It started functioning in the local High School building with only Pre-University Humanities class having roll strength of 98 students and six lectures. In the year 1965 the College was shifted to its own temporary building situated at the open field surrounded by natural sights at distance of 1 km. eastward of the town.science the, the college has never looked back and has been galloping towards perfection in all spheres of activities. The CHSE, Orissa came into existence in 1983 to accommodate the +2 sream of courses after secondary education in consonance with all india UGC pattern of eduction .Our college is affiliated to CHSE, Orissa .It is an affiliated college under the Fakir Mohan University which has its Headquaters at Vyasa Vihar , Balasore A.B College at present is full fledged degree college with classes in commerce, science and arts with honors in English, Economics, History, Political Science, Oriya, Sanskrit, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Zoology and Accontancy. Hindustani Music(Vocal) was introduced in the year 2003 as one of the optional subjects of +2 arts stream. In short, the present infra-structural and the academic development of the college would not have been possible without the combined efforts of the Principals, his staff members, students and the local public as a whole. Last but not the least:- the help extended by the local M.L.A. and M.P s has gone a long way in the expedious implementation of recent developmental schemes of the college.
